About

Hi everyone and welcome!

Ako po si John. I am a Filipino (Tagalog) language learner. I'm a Filipino-American with lots of Filipino family in the Philippines and elsewhere. So it's only natural that I learn Filipino so I can communicate with them.

As a Filipino-American, I did not learn Filipino growing up because it wasn't something that interested me. When we were still young, my parents offered to teach my sibling and me but we just weren't interested. I won't throw the whole I-am-so-upset-that-my-parents-did-not-teach-me-Tagalog-when-I-was-little pity party. The only thing to do is learn it – no excuses.

This blog is my Filipino language journey. I have a few years of on-off Tagalog learning under my belt. But hey sometimes life throws a few curves into the mix and I don't get to progress. Well, I figure that as long as I never quit I will reach the goal.

I find my methodological inspiration in AJATT (All Japanese All The Time) and those who found success with it like MATTvsJapan, BritVsJapan, and JALUP. Basically, the idea is to create an environment where it's easy do something in the target language (Japanese for them, Tagalog for me) as much as possible. It also relies a lot upon input before output. And don't forget that it has to be fun.

I'm just glad that I have an opportunity to further learn the beautiful language of Filipino. I intend to learn more languages after this. But I don't want to get ahead of myself.

I hope to provide a resource as well to the Filipino learners out there.

Thanks for reading and take care!
